Lake District Attractions to Visit During Your Stay
The Lake District is a great destination for any holidaymaker; whether it’s an active getaway that you’re looking for or a more relaxed family holiday, the Lakes can offer you the perfect holiday.
We’re extremely lucky to be situated in such a prime location in this beautiful area, and during your stay with us, you’ll have easy access to some of the best attractions in the Lake District, all within a reasonable distance from the front door of your accommodation in Windermere. After a great night’s sleep, where will you head off to?
The World of Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter is one of the Lake Districts most famous past inhabitants; whether you’ve heard of her work or seen it first hand through stories such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit or The Tale of Pigling Bland, most lovers of this incredible author and illustrator want to visit the area which inspired so many of her stories.
Bowness-on-Windermere holds an incredible attraction which details the life and work of Beatrix and showcases the history behind some of her most well known works. Forage through the woodland of Jemima Puddleduck’s woodland glade or enjoy a relaxing look around the house of Mrs Tiggy-winkle!
This attraction is aimed at kids, and is a must visit if you are a fan of Beatrix Potter and her many stories – you can even take a little something home from the official Beatrix Potter shop at the end of the attraction.
Lakes Cruises
If just staying on the shores of Lake Windermere isn’t enough for you, there are plenty of cruise operators which can take you out onto the lake itself and take in some of the most breath-taking views from the water rather than land.
Cruising along the smooth ripples of the lake provides the perfect opportunity for those who want to have a relaxing hour or two to kick back and relax aboard one of the many steamers that make the round trip on the lake.
Offering unbeatable views of both scenery and wildlife, this is also a great way to get children interested in the area – being on the boat itself is a great experience!
Wray Castle
For fans of history and culture looking to stay with us, the Lakes is home to the incredible Wray Castle. This mock-gothic castle overlooks Lake Windermere and often has a range of activities for you to get involved in.
You can arrive at the castle in many ways – from a regular lake cruise, a leisurely stroll or even by bike, and it is a great place for all the family to take in the true Lake District atmosphere. Small children will love the Peter Rabbit Adventure, whereas older children have the option to play dress-up!
There are also guided tours which operate for the majority of the year if exploring the castle and grounds is more your cup of tea.
Treetop Nets
Is an activity-filled holiday more what you’re looking for? How do you feel about ascending over 40 feet off the ground in a tree canopy? If you’re eager to go on a holiday like this, make sure you add Treetop Nets to your must-visit list.
Situated to the north of Lake Windermere at Brockhole, this incredible treetop adventure is suitable for all the family aged 3 years and up, and is a great group activity to get involved in. With various walkways, slides, tunnels and even trampolines all situated high up in the canopy, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous!
There’s plenty for you to get up to during your stay with us here at Windermere Marina Village – where will you head to first?
