We take a closer look at some of the events going on around the Lake District throughout the festive period, as well as some of the activities you will probably want to take part in during your stay in the Lakes.

Winter Walks in The Lakes

You simply cannot visit the Lake District during the winter if you aren’t going to take advantage of one of the many walks in the area.

Whilst the walks are beautifully scenic all year round, there is something about the colder months which turns the Lake District into a genuine winter wonderland.

Whether you want to take a scenic stroll by the lake or be a bit more adventurous and tackle one of the many tarns around the area, you are sure to find stunning views around every corner. Clear winter day’s in the lakes offer an unrivalled view of the surrounding areas, especially when you manage to get to the peak of your chosen walk. We suggest taking a comforting flask of hot chocolate, so you can enjoy a well-earned warming drink as you bask in the natural beauty surrounding you, before safely making your descent.

All Aboard The Tinsel Train!

If you are bringing children along to the Lake District during December, you will definitely want to consider taking them on a magical train ride throughout the Lakes with Santa.

This 1 hour return journey will travel between Haverthwaite and Lakeside; during the trip presents will be given out by Santa to all the children on board, whilst there is a festive treat and seasonal drink on offer for the adults to enjoy.

Throughout the journey, children and parents alike can also enjoy a festive singsong, with a whole host of Christmas carols being played. A fun-filled day is sure to be had, and your children are sure to remember the time they met Santa in the Lakes for the rest of their lives.

The train will run each weekend in December in the run-up to Christmas, with trains running several times throughout each day.
