Windermere is well known for being an incredibly beautiful area of the country. Nestled snugly within the heart of the Lake District, this area truly has some of the most breath-taking views in the UK.

Whether you choose to explore this lovely area by foot or by boat, you will be treated to some spectacular scenes. There are plenty of natural wonders to view which change throughout the seasons. So, where can you find the most beautiful spots in Windermere?

Biskey Howe

The view from Biskey Howe viewpoint is a wonderful sight, giving you a different vantage point across Lake Windermere and out to the central fells. You can make use of the benches and find out more about the view by reading the toposcope board.

Gummer’s How

Gummer’s How offers a lovely, leisurely walk, as there is less than 400 ft of climbing. This makes it a great place for a walk that the whole family can enjoy. Best of all, you can appreciate the fabulous views up Windermere and beyond Newby Bridge out to the sea.

With views of the nearby peaks across the lake, there is something particularly tranquil about this part of Windermere. You can enjoy one of the Windermere Lake Cruises and truly experience the beauty of the scenery, which is spectacular at any time of year.

If you would rather stay on land, you can take a walk around the lake to explore the views.

Tarn Hows

Tarn Hows is nestled between Coniston and Hawkshead and is a wonderful area to stroll around and take in the beautiful views. The tarn is a mountain lake which makes a spectacular focal point for the area. Tarn Hows is incredibly popular due to its accessibility and breath-taking backdrop.

You can take a walk around the water, enjoying the fabulous scenery, and through the wooded areas which provide stunning sights underneath the canopies.
