1 – Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre
Found on the shore just outside of Bowness Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre specialise in all things water for all ages.
Just a 5 minute drive from Windermere Marina Village near Millerground you’ll find Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre. Offering hire, tuition and full day activities on the water this is the perfect way to introduce yourself and your group to paddleboards, canoes, sailing boats and much more!
2 – Lake District Wildlife Park
If you are willing to go a little further afield during your visit to the Lakes, we would definitely recommend heading up to Bassenthwaite to the Lake District Wildlife Park.
Offering a fantastic day out for all ages, this attraction boasts the title of being the only wildlife park in North Cumbria. There are well over 100 different animal species within the wildlife park, and plenty of events and activities going on throughout the day, from a bird of prey flying display to otter and red panda feeding sessions.
It is worth noting that this attraction is around an hour away from Windermere Marina Village, so if you are looking to visit the wildlife park, we would suggest that you set off bright and early to make the most of your day at the park. You can purchase a family ticket for just £34 to visit the Lake District Wildlife, this allows 2 adults and 2 children to enter the park – you can also purchase individual tickets too.
3 – The World Of Beatrix Potter
No things-to-do-in-the-Lake-District list would be complete without The World Of Beatrix Potter making an appearance! Probably the best known attraction in the Lake District, The World Of Beatrix Potter lies in the heart of Bowness-On-Windermere and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Taking your family through the history of Beatrix Potter and her ties to the Lake District, this attraction is perfect for children of all ages, giving a fantastic insight into Potter’s work in an interactive, interesting way.
Your family will journey through 8 areas during your visit, all specifically designed to highlight the various tales told by Potter throughout her life. During your visit, don’t forget to head for a spot of afternoon tea at the onsite café, your family won’t be disappointed! It’s also worth noting that there are often events going on at The World Of Beatrix Potter, so be sure to keep an eye out for these before you visit the Lakes.
4 – Windermere Jetty Museum
The Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories has only recently opened its doors earlier in 2019 but is already attracting hordes of visitors thanks to the stunning experience the attraction boats.
With interactive galleries for the children to enjoy, you and your family can learn more about the history of boats in the Lake District.
Not only can you experience the extensive gallery, but you can also take a Heritage boat trip as you can set sail on the Osprey, a fully-restored Edwardian steamboat. Along with this, there is a conservation workshop that highlights the work that goes into ensuring that each vessel is kept in top condition, and a model boating pond where families are encouraged to enjoy a picnic in serene surroundings.
