Take It to the Water

And of course, being on a lake, we could not miss water sports. From paddleboarding and sailing to canoeing and kayaking, there is plenty to do in the Lake District if you don’t mind getting wet.

Sailing

A sport of logical thinking and skill, sailing is an educational and fun activity for older kids and families. It also affords you the ability of getting on the water while keeping reasonably dry. You can sail on your own or as part of a group; either way, you are guaranteed to have a fun day out.

If you are looking for a day out which is sure to catch your child’s imagination, we would strongly suggest a visit to the Children’s Trail and Beatrix Potter’s house. On Samuel Whiskers’ Children Trail, your children will need to search for Samuel Whiskers and his friends around the Hill Top house and seek out hedgehogs in the garden as your family follow the trail.

Potter bought the house back in 1905 with the proceeds from her first and most popular book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Potter wrote the vast majority of her books from this location, using the surrounding countryside as inspiration. Inside the House, you’ll find that each room has a tale to tell, with inspiration from Potter’s many books.
