Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of romantic things to do for couples, from enjoying a meal in a romantic setting to enjoying a cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Windermere. Whether you are an active couple looking for a challenging walk, or a couple looking for a quiet getaway together, the Lake District has the perfect offering for you.

In this article, we describe some of the sights and places that you simply need to visit during your stay. We will be looking at heart-warmingly beautiful mountain ranges, dining in style on Lake Windermere and sumptuous restaurants fit for a romantic evening meal – all within easy reach of our luxury self-catering accommodation in Windermere.

1 – Romantic Walks In The Lake District

Is there anything quite like a romantic walk in a truly stunning setting?

A walk in the Lake District offers the perfect escape from the pressures of the outside world with you and your loved one able to enjoy each other’s uninterrupted company. Here are just a couple of the walks that we would suggest tackling during your stay in the Lakes:

The Three Peaks of Langdale

For more adventurous couples who are looking for a bit of a challenge whilst on their romantic getaway, the stony heft of Langdale is awe-inspiring long before your arrival at the foot of the Pikes and is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic walk together. If either of you isn’t inspired by the thought of a difficult hike, but you both enjoy a casual walk amongst nature, then there is still much to be gained by walking along the lower routes dictated by the sheer slopes on either side.

If, however, the thought of getting your blood pumping on a rocky walk through thin air is something that you take pleasure in, then Langdale is one of the most beautiful hikes you could hope to enjoy during your stay in the Lake District.

The Langdale Peaks can be tackled depending on your capabilities; you can choose to stop at the tarn at around 415m of solid vertical climb and be thoroughly proud of yourselves, or you could prepare to tackle all three of Langdale’s peaks: Harrison Stickle, Pike o’Stickle and Rossett Pike.

For many, the journey to Stickle Tarn will be challenging enough, but the dip in the mountain lake at the top is very refreshing. Be careful not to tire yourself out too much and remember to take pictures to commemorate your victory together over the mountain.

Orrest Head

Anyone who is relatively new to hiking may want to take on Orrest Head, this is a simple trek, but the views at the end of the path are well worth your effort. Located just outside of Windermere, Orrest Head is a circular route that will only take you around 20 minutes to reach the summit from Windermere or around 2 hours from your front door at Windermere Marina Village.

Despite the short walk, the views that you will be treated to at the summit are a sight to behold, with Lake Windermere taking centre stage and the surrounding fells in the backdrop, you and your partner are sure to have your breath taken away by the stunning surroundings.

2 – Sail Away With Your Partner On Lake Windermere

During your stay in the Lakes, it’s almost obligatory to enjoy a leisurely cruise on Lake Windermere.

Whether you choose to let a professional do the sailing for you, or if you prefer to take a more hands-on role in being the captain of your very own vessel, you can be sure of stunning and tranquil surroundings on Lake Windermere.

If you’re hoping to enjoy a stunning sunset on Lake Windermere, you could opt for an evening meal on the lake. You will be fully catered for, with a scrumptious four-course meal included as part of the package.

You can sit back and relax throughout the duration of the journey, as you will be accompanied by your very own skipper, who will be on hand to ensure your safety and total enjoyment at all times.

Private Boat Hire On Lake Windermere

If enjoying a meal on the calm waters of Lake Windermere doesn’t sound all that appealing to you and your partner, you could choose to be a little more adventurous and privately hire a boat for a few hours. You can enjoy sailing around Lake Windermere as a couple, taking in all of the surrounding sights from the peaceful tranquillity of the water.

No previous boating experience is required to hire a motorboat at Lake Windermere, so you can simply roll back the roof and enjoy a romantic boat ride together in one of the most stunning settings the UK has to offer.

It’s worth noting that if you’re looking to pop the question to your loved one during your trip to the lakes, doing so on a privately hired boat is a genuinely fantastic option.
