Why Spring is the Perfect Time to Visit Windermere

Windermere is a stunning location to visit all year around, but there’s something about spring which makes it a perfect time to visit. Spring is a beautiful season; nature begins to blossom, days seem to last longer, and the sun begins to beam through again.

Spring is the perfect season to enjoy the outdoors and Windermere has much to offer for those looking to enjoy the sun. Located in the heart of the Lake District, Windermere has an abundance of activities for you and your family to enjoy. Enjoy the Historic Houses

Windermere is a place filled with history, and you can journey through this by visiting the historical homes and museums throughout the destination. Here we have listed a couple homes with history you can experience on your spring getaway.

  • Blackwell – located in Bowness-on-Windermere, this beautiful house is one of England’s most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. Designed between 1897 and 1900, the majority of its original interior decoration is still intact. This Grade 1 listed building is today an open gallery providing national and international high-quality Arts and Crafts. Overlooking Lake Windermere, it’s perfect for a day out.
  • Hill Top – the natural beauty and wildlife of the Lake District inspired Beatrix Potter to create and write her beloved stories. Located in Far Sawrey, around a 20 minute drive from Windermere Marina Village using the ‘Windermere Car Ferry’ you can experience the iconic and memorable views the lake and mountains offer in the spring time.   • Rydal Mount – William Wordworth’s favourite home this stunning house, gardens and tearoom are open from Spring to Autumn each year. Whist visiting take the opportunity to walk around Rydal Water with the famous Rydal Cave or visit the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage in Grasmere (Don’t forget to call in for some famous Grasmere Gingerbread!)

Beautiful Scenery

From sunrise to sunset, spring displays some of the most stunning natural beauty the eye can see. You have the freedom to explore the stunning surroundings that Windermere offers. Travel the famous lake by boat or ferry and lose yourself in the scenery. The famous ‘555‘ bus service runs almost the length of the Lake District National Park, great for exploring car free and taking in all the scenery from the top deck!

Adventurous Walks

Windermere homes a fantastic variation of walks to fulfil your days, from short walks to long walks, there’s an adventure for all to enjoy. Here are some short walks Windermere offers:

  • Bowness to Cockshott Point – this 2km (1.2 mile) walk is popular with tourists who visit the area. Located on the southern edge of Bowness Bay, it is the perfect area for a stroll to watch the sun set and just a few minutes walk
  • Windermere’s Western Shore – this is a longer walk, covering 9km (5.5 miles). Adventuring through woodland and parkland, you can experience the wonderful views of the islands.
  • School Knott – covering 8km (5 miles) this walk takes you above Windermere and Bowness to the stunning School Knott on the Dales Way. Ther are various lengths of the walk available depending on your starting point
  • Brockhole – this is the shortest route, covering 1.5km (0.9 miles). This short walk takes you around the beautiful grounds of Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre. The visitor centre offers numerous attractions, including woodland and meadow trails, adventure playground and a famous walled garden.
