Treat Your Mum to a Lake District Break

The old saying that ‘time flies’ is certainly true, and with that in mind, Mothers Day will soon be upon us.

Whether you’re planning a Mothering Sunday surprise, or if you are simply looking for ways to treat your mum more often, this article will give you all of the ideas you need to make any trip to the Lake District with your mum a resounding success.

Lunch with a View

For Mother’s Day, we know that you’ll already have the perfect breakfast in bed that caters specifically to her tastes, complete with a bouquet of her favourite flowers, so we’ll refrain from telling you how to do breakfast and skip straight to your lunch.

Following the perfect breakfast can be tricky, but it is possible. At Windermere Marina Village, we think that a beautiful view can improve any experience, which is why our luxury self-catering accommodation overlooks the picturesque Lake Windermere.

Since you’ve decided to take your mum to Windermere Marina Village, chances are that you will also love the experience of eating lunch by the water. In this section, we will give you an insight into the best places in and around Windermere to have a lovely Mother’s Day lunch or afternoon tea.

Langdale Chase

Langdale Chase is famous for being one of the Lakes’ most romantic wedding venues, but it is also the perfect place to take your mum on a special Sunday. Here, you can enjoy a beautiful Sunday Lunch with all of the extras, or you can reserve a place for afternoon tea by the gorgeous Lake Windermere. Arrive by boat and moor up on their jetty for a true touch of luxury!

Sunday Lunch is served between 12.30pm and 2.30 pm. Bookings must be made 24 hours in advance, but their mains and desserts are always stunning, so you will not be disappointed.

Afternoon Tea is served daily and has a superb selection of delicate treats to indulge in and a large variety of tea and coffee to enjoy alongside your delicious food. Weather depending why not enjoy dining al fresco with the uninterrupted stunning views over Windermere.

Wateredge Inn

Perhaps you have already enjoyed Langdale Chase on a previous visit and are looking for something new? The Wateredge Inn offers a scrumptious selection of food with a beautiful lakeside view. It’s not necessary to book in advance unless you have specific plans for your seating arrangements; it’s your choice whether you take your mum to enjoy her meal alfresco, or whether you would prefer to dine by a crackling log fire indoors.

The Samling

For a real touch of luxury relax in the stunning surroundings of The Samling. Set on the hillside overlooking Windermere the sweeping driveway provides an impressive entrance to this exclusive hotel. Sunday lunch is served between 12.15pm and 2.45pm with a personal touch and stunning menu – booking is essential.

After lunch take a stroll in the 67 acres of Georgian arbour, woodland and gardens that surround the house and enjoy the wildlife and views from the elvevated location that hides The Samling away from the wider world.

Lake Cruises

Once you have finished eating by the water, perhaps you and your mum will want to enjoy one of Windermere’s fun river cruises. The Windermere Lake Cruises are a brilliant way to make a memory that will last a lifetime.

These cruises are available from a variety of points along Windermere and can take you from Bowness to Ambleside, Lakeside to Fell Foot, or Brockhole to Bark Barn. Wherever you’re headed near Windermere, the Lake Cruises can take you there in style.

Spa Treatments

If the river cruise wasn’t close enough to the water, then perhaps you should treat your mum to a relaxing spa session in the evening. There are plenty of choices around Windermere Marina Village, including The Old England hotel, Low Wood Resort and The Swan hotel. If you’re a regular visitor to the Windermere Marina Village and hoping to try something a little different, we can also recommend Oxley’s in Ambleside which offers a range of holistic therapies from a team of expertly trained therapists.

Make sure that you plan the perfect Mother’s Day in advance so you can stop worrying and start looking forward to a fantastic day.

Plan some quality time in for you and your mum now to avoid disappointment. We are always happy to help you find the perfect holiday cottage; please contact us with any enquiries or requests, and our friendly team will be more than happy to assist you.
