Experience Half Term in the Lakes with Windermere Marina Village

Half term is soon approaching, and what better way to impress your children than by surprising them with a fabulous family holiday in the lake district.

There is plenty going on in the Lakes over the half term, and Windermere Marina is situated right at the heart of it all. With our pet-friendly accommodation you can bring the whole family too, so even the dog can enjoy a family getaway!

We will be looking at things to do with your young ones and teenagers both outdoors and indoors, so you will have something to look forward to whatever the weather.

Outdoors

Windermere Treetop trek

A simple ten-minute drive from Windermere Marina Village is where you will find Brockhole, home of The Treetop Trek, a thrilling outdoor adventure for any active family. Treetop Trek make good use of safety cables to keep you and your family secure whilst swinging through trees and climbing up ropes. Supervision is required for all young children, so this is an event for both adults and children to participate in together.

Some Prior Considerations…

  • Children must be the minimum age five to take to the trees on the Mini Trek and must be accompanied by one adult per child.
  • Children aged seven and up can participate in the Full Trek (a more adventurous climbing area) but seven to eleven-year-old children require one adult for every three participating children.
  • Teenagers aged twelve to fifteen require one adult on site at all times.

Boat Hire

Where better to appreciate Lake Windermere than atop its gentle, lulling surface. There are plenty of opportunities to hire beautiful boats around Lake Windermere, with prices around £18 for rowing boats, if you see yourself as a traditional romantic; or £30 for motorboats, if you want to save your arm strength for tiring the kids out with more activities later. Boat rides are a fantastic way to take your children out on your own seafaring adventure, with you in control.

Indoors

Marina Leisure Club and Spa

Sometimes, a lazy day is just what your family needs to unwind and relax. Windermere Marina Village offers you all of the modern amenities with our full complimentary access to Choices Heath Club. Hand the kids over to your partner or relative in the heated swimming pool and take a few minutes for yourself in an indulgent sauna to unwind.

The World of Beatrix Potter

The Beatrix Potter museum is a magical opportunity for your children to connect with some traditional British storytelling. Take your children to see the iconic Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck as part of their attractions.

The friendly team at The World of Beatrix Potter recommend that you plan to spend one hour enjoying their exhibition, garden, shop and tea room. For an extra special treat, you can introduce your children to the joys of a delicate High Tea. There is no booking required and prices start at £8.75 for one, and £16.95 for two. Parents may also be interested in adding a glass of prosecco to their special High Tea.

Wray Castle

Wray Castle features an indoor shadow forest to impress your children with some mildly spooky fun, and further Beatrix Potter lore. Potter stayed at this grandiose castle in 1882, so you can retrace her steps during your visit.

Not only does Wray Castle boast a connection with Beatrix Potter to entertain your young ones, but it is also hosting a special event over the half term holiday – Forests of Folklore – which features a fun game of hide and seek with some traditional folk characters in the castle’s indoor forest.

Forests of Folklore is a free event when you purchase admission to Wray Castle. Prices vary for children and adults, but you may be interested in the family ticket priced at £24. If you wake up at the Marina and find that your walking plans have been dampened by a little rain, then why not pop down to Wray Castle. There is no prior booking required for this event.

Windermere has so much to offer for families looking to make long-lasting memories over the half term.

Bringing your children to Windermere Marina Village will give them the chance to experience a luxury holiday in what many call ‘the most beautiful corner of England’. Whether you’re relaxing in a heated pool, sipping tea at the World of Beatrix Potter, or gawping at the magnificent Wray Castle, let Windermere Marina Village be your touchstone for a family holiday to remember.
