What to bring on your holiday

To help you make the most out of your stay with us at Windermere Marina we have compiled a quick handy guide for you to help with your packing and knowing what to bring? We know you probably can’t fit everything into the car so here is some information to help you pack correctly for your holiday break.


As your staying on a self-catering holiday you will need to bring all your food and drink with you. We do provide basic tea and coffee provisions for your arrival but you will need to bring with you all your own food and drink requirements.

Those guests wanting to cook and entertain our properties have fully equipped kitchens including crockery, glasses and cooking equipment to stir up your culinary delights. Some guests choose to bring food from home in the car or call into the local supermarkets on route. In Bowness we have a Tesco Express and a Co-Op or for those looking for a special treat try Booths Supermarket in Windermere and taste some specialty Cumbrian foods. Some guests pre-order a supermarket delivery direct to your holiday home from Asda or Tesco, just make sure your in your holiday home when your allocated drop off time is.

If cooking is not for you and after all your on holiday, then you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or an evening meal at the onsite Boathouse Bar & Restaurant (please check seasonal opening times first as this is not operated by Windermere Marina Village). With a choice of many other eateries on your doorstop in nearby Bowness you will be spoilt for choice.


Our essentials pack which includes; kitchen roll, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid will be in your property to get you started but you will need to make provisions to bring your own. 2 kitchen tea towels are also provided per holiday property.


You will need to bring your personal toiletries and clothing for your stay just like you would for any normal holiday. Our holiday properties some with hand soap for the bathrooms. Hairdryers are also provided in each property.


Our holiday properties come with enough towels per person for bathing and washing purposes. (1 bath sheet and 1 hand towel per person). If you plan on using the spa and leisure facilities at the nearby Old England you will need to bring your own with you. Towels at The Old England leisure club are available for hire if you prefer.


All linen and bedding is provided in the price of your stay so no there need to bring anything with you. If you are hiring a cot then you will need to bring your own.


Pets are permitted in selected properties. Each pet friendly property comes with a dog bowl and food matt. Dogs are very welcome here at Windermere Marina Village we just ask that you keep your pets off the furniture and clean up after them.


Who can plan for the Lake District weather…….? A rain coat is always a good idea when visiting Cumbria. If your planning on doing some serious walking then make sure you bring appropriate footwear and walking gear.

Just in case you do need to do any laundry during your stay most holiday properties come with a washing machine and dryer, otherwise there is a launderette on site too. Each property comes with an iron and ironing board too.


We realise that travelling with young children means you have to bring a lot of gear. To keep room in the car why not hire a cot and high chairs? Travel cot hire, £7 per stay and high chair £5 per stay. Please check these are available if requested before arrival. If your hiring a cot please make sure you bring all your own bedding.


Leave the gadgets at home and relax…. Your in the Lakes after all. If you cant let go and need your Wi-Fi fix then most of our holiday properties come with free Wi-Fi access. The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant has free Wi-Fi access too if needed.
