A rainy day in the Lake District doesn’t have to mean that your holiday can’t still be packed full of exciting activities. Windermere and the surrounding areas have plenty of fun events, activities and venues which are sure to take your rainy day blues right away.

Here are just a few activities that are perfect for the whole family to take part in on a damp day in the Lake District.

The World of Beatrix Potter

Probably one of the most famous attractions in the Lake District, The World of Beatrix Potter is sure to brighten up even the rainiest day for the whole family.

The hour-long, self-guided tour is split into 8 separate areas and will take you on a magical journey through the world of Beatrix Potter. This particular section of the tour is best suited to children under the age of 8.

One of our personal favourites is Area 3 which plays host to The Peter Rabbit Garden; it really captures the essence of the world Beatrix Potter created and even includes the gooseberry bush and the net Peter Rabbit got stuck in when trying to escape Mr. McGregor.

Area 6 is a particular highlight for any children in your party, as you can take a virtual walk through Beatrix Potter’s countryside using a computer projection. You’ll experience 360-degree views and narration throughout this section of the tour, and there’s even a short film on The Tales of Mrs. Heelis to enjoy.

For the adults and older children in your group, Beatrix’s Hill Top House is a perfect for a rainy day in the Lakes. The house helped to inspire many of Beatrix Potter’s tales and the surrounding areas, rooms and contents all played a significant role in the fantastic books she produced.
