Spend February Half Term with Windermere Marina Village

After the New Year, many people start thinking about booking their next break and, with February half term just around the corner, now is the perfect time to arrange a family getaway. The Lake District is no longer regarded as just a summer destination; on the contrary, with cosy pubs and plenty of places to visit, winter is a fantastic time of year to come to the Lakes.

So, why not take a well-deserved break when the kids are off school? Bring the whole family to Windermere and enjoy the best the Lakes have to offer.

Why Should You Visit Windermere in February?

Is there a better feeling than wrapping up warm and stepping out into the cold to enjoy a refreshing hike with your family or friends? Windermere and the Lake District have many walking routes that are perfect for both beginners and experienced hikers, so there is something for everyone. There’s nothing like going on a walk on a crisp and sunny winter morning.

Plus, you’ll be privy to some of the country’s most beautiful scenery. The Lakes are now considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you know you’ll get picture-postcard photos that will last a lifetime. If you’re a fan of snow, you’ll find that the hills and mountains will be covered in white, a beautiful sight your kids will love.

Another way to see the Lakes is by boat. Winter is a beautiful time of year to head over to Lake Windermere, setting sail  will give you a unique vantage point to the beauty of the region. You’ll be framed by the gorgeous mountains as you glide across the largest lake in England.

Winter also begs for cosiness. After a fun-filled day of outdoor adventures, kick back and relax on a plush couch while watching your favourite TV shows. Or why not head down to the local pub and sip a hot brew while relaxing by the warmth of a fire? One of the best things about visiting Windermere in February is how you can just snuggle up with your family while watching a movie or playing board games.

What to Do in the Lakes During Half Term?

You don’t have to spend all day in Windermere (but with so much beauty to see here, we understand if you wanted to); there are plenty of places to explore during winter, as well as many activities to enjoy. Take a look at some of the things that await you and your whole family in the Lakes this February:

Dove Cottage

A wonderful place to explore all year round, even in winter, Dove Cottage is rich in history and character. This was William Wordsworth’s first home in the little village of Grasmere and where he wrote some of best poetry in the English Language. Guests can visit the interior as well as the family gardens, and entry is free for children when accompanied by an adult.

Tree Top Nets and Treks

If you’re looking for a more adventurous break this February, why not head over to Brockhole and enjoy a day of climbing, balancing and flying through ancient oak woodland canopy with the kids? While in Brockhole, you can also enjoy the Lake District Visitor Centre and breathe in the fresh air by the lakeside, wander through the beautiful gardens and pop into the gift shop for a souvenir of an unforgettable day.

Treasure Trail

Have your kids ever wanted to go on a treasure hunt? If so, Bowness-on-Windermere can help them achieve their dream. The self-guided treasure hunt is perfect for small children six years old and up; while some of the clues are easy, others are a bit trickier – perfect for all ages. You have to find answers to clues on plaques, signs, statues and other historic sites around town, so you’ll explore nooks and crannies you didn’t even know existed.

The World of Beatrix Potter

For families with young children, The World of Beatrix Potter is definitely worth a visit during half term. The attraction celebrates all things Beatrix Potter; you can spend a couple of hours exploring the exhibition and garden, as well as enjoying some delicious food in the Tea Room.

There are several events on during the February half term holidays. There will be crafting on the 19th in which children can enjoy getting messy. On the 20th there is “Old Brown Owl Day,” a popular exhibition that allows you to meet some real owls!
