Romance in the Lakes: Experience the Ideal Romantic Getaway this Summer

There’s a reason that Britain’s poets from the age of Romance spent so much time in the Lake District, and in this article, we describe some of the sights which are sure to invigorate the both of you this Summer. We will be looking at heart-warmingly beautiful mountain ranges, dining in style on Lake Windermere and sumptuous restaurants fit for a romantic meal – all within easy reach of our luxury self-catering accommodation in Windermere.

The Three Peaks of Langdale

The stony heft of Langdale is awe-inspiring long before your arrival at the foot of the Pikes and is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic walk together. If either of you isn’t inspired by the thought of a difficult hike, but you both enjoy a casual walk amongst nature, then there is still much to be gained by walking along the lower routes dictated by the sheer slopes on either side.

If, however, the thought of getting your blood pumping on a rocky walk through thin air is something that you take pleasure in, then Langdale is one of the most beautiful hikes you could hope to enjoy during your stay in the Lake District.

The Langdale Peaks can be tackled depending on your capabilities; you can choose to stop at the tarn at around 415m of solid vertical climb and be thoroughly proud of yourselves, or you could prepare to tackle all three of Langdale’s peaks: Harrison Stickle, Pike o’Stickle and Rossett Pike.

For many, the journey to Stickle Tarn will be challenging enough, but the dip in the mountain lake at the top is very refreshing. Be careful not to tire yourself out too much and remember to take pictures to commemorate your victory together over the mountain.

Dine on Lake Windermere

If you are looking to experience a truly unique sailing experience during your romantic getaway to the Lake District, be sure to take a look at some of the dine and sail experiences available.

Depending on your particular preference, you can choose to head out onto Lake Windermere and enjoy a lunch sailing experience, where you will enjoy a short tour of the Lake before being served a delightful meal.
