It might still be summer, but you’re probably thinking about getting the kids ready to go back to school (new uniforms, finding P.E. kits, racking your brain for where the lunch boxes went), but perhaps you should also be thinking about how to spend your half-term together as a family. There are plenty of reasons why you and your family would love to stay with us in Windermere this autumn, read on to find out why.
When Is the Half-Term?
October half-term in 2019 is around Monday 21st October to Friday 25th October (back to school on Monday 28th October), but this might differ from school to school so make sure that you check with your local school before you book an amazing family holiday in the Lake District with us.
Half Term Family Events in Windermere
If you are coming to celebrate a wonderful half-term event in Windermere, then you will want to be aware of all the fantastic events happening in the Lake District so that you can plan a week full of impressive activities and good food. In this section, we take a look at some of the very best events taking place in the Bowness area and throughout the Lake District.
Samuel Whiskers’ Children’s Trail At Hill Top – Beatrix Potter’s House
If you are looking for a day out which is sure to catch your child’s imagination, we would strongly suggest a visit to the Children’s Trail and Beatrix Potter’s house. On Samuel Whiskers’ Children Trail, your children will need to search for Samuel Whiskers and his friends around the Hill Top house and seek out hedgehogs in the garden as your family follow the trail.
Potter bought the house back in 1905 with the proceeds from her first and most popular book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Potter wrote the vast majority of her books from this location, using the surrounding countryside as inspiration. Inside the House, you’ll find that each room has a tale to tell, with inspiration from Potter’s many books.
Take a Trip To The Lakes Aquarium
The Lakes Aquarium is a fantastic day out for the whole family, with a vast array of fish from around the world on show. The aquarium takes you through a re-created journey below Lake Windermere, through the seashore and then on to a journey around the world, with wildlife from the continents of Asia, the Americas and Africa, before being brought back round to the wildlife you can expect to see in the Lake District.
Perfect for children, this attraction is perfect if the weather is less than ideal and you’re looking to entertain the kids for a few hours. It’s also worth noting that children under three are able to enter the aquarium for free!
October 19th & 26th – Peter Rabbit Tea Party
Perfect for younger families, this event occurs quite regularly every Saturday at 3:30 pm but is always a favourite amongst visitors to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. At this event, you can expect to enjoy party food such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps and cakes. Sometimes, you might be joined by a Beatrix Potter representative who will read The Tale of Peter Rabbit to the participants.
Tickets for this sweet event cost each child £14 and adults £16.50, and this includes the food as well as some small gifts for each child, a balloon and rabbit ears. You can also gain entry to the main section of The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction before the meal, so ensure that you arrive before 3:30 pm to make the most of your ticket.
October 27th – Kids Go FREE in Spooky Halloween Dress
You can’t make plans in October without being reminded about Halloween (usually by your own children), but you can provide them with the Halloween attraction that they desire during the half-term holiday.
Pack their favourite Halloween costume with you if you’re going to be staying with us during the last Sunday of their half-term because The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction is letting kids go free with spooky-themed events to be enjoyed, such as the spooky Halloween crafts table.
Whether you’re looking to bring your teenager out of their shell or make some memories with the little ones, you can do it all from Windermere.
