The Easter break is a fabulous opportunity for your family to make long-lasting memories, and where better to cultivate these memories than in the unforgettable environment of the central Lake District? Based in Windermere, we can direct you towards the best Easter experiences that the Lake District has to offer you and your family.
Of the many Spring activities available in the Lake District, the following are some of our personal favourites that we recommend to guests staying at our luxury self-catering accommodation in the Lake District.
Wray Castle at Easter is the embodiment of Spring; with cultured gardens. It’s a lovely day out for couples, families and groups, especially if you follow their recommendation to arrive via a Windermere Lake Cruise.
For kids, Wray Castle is an especially entertaining prospect. It is packed with fun activities for them to expend their energy on, including an outdoor adventure play area, a Peter Rabbit Adventure, as well as an arts and crafts room.
For Easter, they are hosting their annual egg hunt in collaboration with Cadbury titled, That’s not my nest! This egg hunt is a drop-in session held between 10am and 4pm over the Easter weekend, from Friday 19th April to Monday 22nd 2019.
The aim of the game is to return a toy bird to its correct nest. Upon completing this activity, you are rewarded with a Cadbury chocolate prize. The hunt costs £2.50 on top of the normal entry cost to Wray Castle.
If you’ve not yet visited the magnificent Wray Castle, this is the perfect opportunity for you to make the most of a day out in some genuinely beautiful surroundings.
Another family favourite, Brockhole is a popular recommendation for families looking to experience adventure in Windermere. Brockhole is home to the Treetop Adventures which contain the amazing Treetop Trek course, zip wires and some net playgrounds for younger participants.
On top of the usual fun that is to be experienced at the Treetops, Brockhole have plenty of fun Easter activities to happily tire you and your toddlers out. The Herdy Hunt, held from April 1st to April 23rd, is a cute activity that captures the imagination. The premise is that the Herdy flock have escaped from the Brockhole shop, and it’s up to you to find them again.
Brockhole loves its animals, so this Easter they are also organising some fun pony rides. All equipment is provided, so this experience is perfect for beginners.
Similar to Wray Castle, Brockhole also recommends visiting by a Windermere Lake Cruise to make this a truly special day out.
The World of Beatrix Potter
The World of Beatrix Potter is the go-to place for an Easter Bunny experience. Not only is there the traditional Peter Rabbit Tea Party, available on Saturdays at 3:30pm (booking required), but children wearing a spring bonnet go free on Easter Friday. There will also be a fantastic mini egg hunt on Sunday, April 21st and Monday, April 22nd. Nowhere else in Windermere or Bowness knows how to celebrate Easter quite like The World of Beatrix Potter.
As well as fun for the kids, adults might enjoy a glass of prosecco added to the normal high tea experience (£16.95 for two).
The World of Beatrix Potter is located in Bowness, just a stone’s throw away from Windermere Marina Village.
Wray Castle isn’t alone in its Cadbury Easter egg hunts; Fell Foot is also offering a fantastic egg hunt on Sunday, 21st April 2019. This egg hunt is a bit more of a brain tease, involving a trail of clues and challenges to guide you towards the eggs, as opposed to a blind hunt for hidden eggs.
The price of the Fell Foot Easter experience is just £2, and you can enjoy their lawns and lakeshore for free. Fell Foot invites you to bring your own picnics and games, whilst also recommending that you try out their sailboats.
This egg hunt is available from 11am till 3pm, and is perfect for some midday entertainment.
There are so many adventures and experiences to choose from if you’re staying in or around Windermere this Spring. We’ve looked at experiences in Wray Castle, Brockhole, Bowness and Fell Foot, but if you’ve already exhausted these options in previous visits to Windermere Marina Village, we recommend that you read our blog on Why Spring is the Perfect Time to Visit Windermere for further inspiration.
