Another Great Year for the Windermere Boat & Adventure Show 2019

We look forward to it every single year and it never disappoints; this year was no different. On the weekend starting May 17th, there was excitement, boats, adventure, and a lot of happy people according to ‘#WindermereBoatShow’ across social media channels.

One of the many aims of the show, alongside boosting revenue and creating a fantastic family friendly atmosphere, is to show tourists precisely how much Windermere has to offer. Many visitors visit Windermere simply for a stroll and some food, but the Boat and Adventure Show is here to show you the very best in boating, kayaking, and biking that the Lake District has to offer.

The Windermere Boat & Adventure Show 2019

This year’s Boat and Adventure show had so many highlights that each of the 5000+ visitors enjoyed, from over 150 boats packing the marina throughout the weekend to the stunning live wooden boat making show, the whole event was a spectacle to behold.

There is great optimism that this year’s show will surpass last year’s £1million made for the local economy across the weekend of the event, following a weekend of great weather and plenty of activities around the lake.

Local musicians kept the hordes of visitors entertained throughout the event, as they made their way around the various local produce and food stalls which were threaded throughout Windermere. A particular highlight of the vast majority of visitors was taking the time to enjoy a pint or two of the specially-brewed Boat Show beer provided by the Bowness Bay Brewery. The team from Windemere Marina Moorings were also hand across the weekend to give visitors all the information they need about boat and yacht moorings at Windermere Marina.

Speaking ahead of this year’s show, Event Director, Joe Beaumont, said:

“Yes, it is a boat show, but it’s not just about boats, we want the Lake District to become renowned as a great place for water sports and adventure activities both on and off the water.

“We not only want to make people aware of how accessible water sports are to families in the Lake District, but show them how much is available on their doorstep and enable them to try new things.

“While we want to showcase everything the lake has to offer on and off the water, we want locals to try something new while they are here and be more involved with the show, rather than just spectate.

“And, we want to inspire tourists to get out of their cars and onto the fells and lakes and entice them to spend quality time here, rather than just a day touring around the towns in their cars on a day trip, which we hope will boost local businesses.”

The show’s emphasis on families meant that no parent was held back by their children, it was quite the contrary, as we saw many kids encouraging their parents to take part in an adventure, be that learning the basics of sailing, kayaking or going on a bike ride.

History of The Windermere Boat & Adventure Show

The show was born out of Storm Desmond which caused severe damage to businesses after the flooding which affected regions across the UK, but Cumbria was determined to bounce back from its losses.

The director of the show, Joe Beaumont, was touched by the local’s resilience against the destruction and thought to direct that determination into an avenue which could bring in revenue to offset the effects of Desmond.

More than just an attempt to pull back some revenue, however, the show has become a celebration of life on the lake that draws in rowboats, motorboats, and luxury yachts, as well as just about everyone from boating enthusiasts to typical families on a day out.
